Phil Brown, in the wake of Southend’s latest defeat, suggested that he wanted to bring in a player or two with greater “character” to turn around the recent slump.

Southend started the season on fire, however they’ve now suffered four successive defeats with the latest coming on Friday night with a Roots Hal defeat suffered.

The strong characters that he wants could come from within the squad but if possible he could bring them in from outside of it, with it still possible (if the green light is given) to happen despite the transfer window being closed as these players being looked at are free agents…

In a behind closed doors friendly today Brown was taking a look at midfielder Gomis Bedsente, winger Anthony Edgar and striker Bobby Devyne.

On the players Brown told the Echo: ‘Anthony has bags of pace and can play on either wing so we`ll be having a look at him and a couple of others in the game today.

‘Bobby was actually brought up in Enfield but he played in Denmark before spending six months with the New York Red Bulls and he`s another one we`ll be taking a look at.

‘Gomis will be playing as well and his representatives are due to come in and talk with us tomorrow about what is going to happen next.’

I don’t personally know much about any (but do know Devyne from Chelsea game) although they all have something of a background in the game.

On the right deal one or two, as all three couldn’t come in, could do a job for the Shrimpers I would say, would you agree?
