Brilliant Win For Brown

Manager Phil Brown has said he believes our comprehensive victory over Chesterfield today will have a few times sitting up and taking notice of us in future.

The Roots Hall faithful were treated a rather nice three nil victory over the team that has topped the table during the season so far, but a first half strike from Hurst, backed up by two second half goals from Leonard and Corr had the home crowd going home happy at full time.

The win, meaning our unbeaten run in the league now stretches to six games, also lifts us into third place in the table and only three points off the top spot.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game Brown actually said that for 70 minutes of the game he thought it was the best we had played all season, and he can’t wait to sit down and watch it again on the DVD.

‘We were magnificent. I’m usually looking for one or two things that didn’t go so well, but I’m just going to enjoy watching this tonight. For 70 minutes we were fantastic and every single player was performing at the top of their game.’

Whilst he can somewhat forgive the players for dropping the pace in the final 20 minutes because of the effort they had put into being three goals to the good, that does become his only major gripe in the game because he’d have liked to see us continue going at them with the same gusto purely on a goal difference exercise.

However, during that spell, he has to credit Bentley for his application on the day because Brown believes there was just no way he was going to lose the clean sheet.

‘People will look at this result and take note. They might think a man was sent off or we got the luck, but that isn’t the case.’

Let them underestimate us, it works in our favour if we can repeat those kind of levels again.

A big delight for Brown is he still thinks Chesterfield are very good value for promotion, so to have put them to the sword in that manner really gives him cause to smile.
