Daniel Bentley’s always been destined to play at a much higher level.

Previously Southend have been able to fend off the advances of others but with his contract expiring this summer there isn’t much more the Blues can do with Phil Brown not expecting to see him back at the club next season.

A new deal has been offered but Brown isn’t holding out much hope of him signing it.

Bentley, a former Arsenal academy player, has previously been linked with the likes of West Ham, Hull and Leeds. With his contract expiring at the end of the month he could be poised to leave England for Scotland signing for Rangers?

The Scottish giants have been linked with the 22-year-old with the Scottish Evening Times quoting Brown as saying he expects Bentley, who has been ‘very respectful’ to Southend, to move on but does concede we need this issue resolved sooner rather than later.

‘I`ve met with Daniel Bentley and he`s very respectful towards the club and our situation. I expect him to leave if I`m honest and make a career move to a higher level but we ideally need to know soon what he`s decided to do.’

Bentley’s been brilliant for Southend but League 1 isn’t likely to be a level he’ll remain at beyond the end of the month.

The only question is will he opt for a higher level in England or make the move to Scottish Premiership side Rangers?
